Important information;

As of 4/4/2018, we are closing our emergency response service.
This decision has not been taken lightly. It has been reached following much deliberation, discussions and careful thought over a long period. To avoid any risks we are transferring our alarmphone to Watch the Med – an organisation we have worked alongside with since our beginning in 2015.

We are sharing this message as the safety of anyone crossing is crucial. For people still having to make the journey, we encourage you to please contact Watch the Med directly on their alarmphone; +334 86 51 71 61.

We are fully confident that Watch the Med, the rescue teams on sea and the various ground teams, will continue the work in the same amazing way as always.

Since we started working, we know that we have assisted over 50,000 people on the journey from Turkey to Greece – but in all honesty, we actually lost count a long time ago since we worked for months before starting to log everything properly. We started as a Facebook group and eventually grew into an NGO. Over time we developed new and different methods during the crisis. We set ourselves the task of training hundreds of people over the years – which our team achieved with dedication. The work was very tiring, stressful and phone bills were out of this world, but we managed to save countless of lives – making it all worth it.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone. Our rescue workers would stay up 24 hours and even 48hours at times to check every case and make sure that every person was safe. We wouldn’t rest until we had full confirmation that everyone was alive on solid ground and met by the ground teams. Our volunteers put their own lives on hold to do the job; save as many people as possible at all times. Thank you.

Thank you to everyone who contacted us. We want you to know that it was an honour to stand with you, on your journey, in the camps, while reaching safety – together we showed the world what unity is really about.

Thank you to all our supporters, our teams, our committee members and our generous donors.

As we now move on, we are reflecting on the experiences and lessons from our work. Now we find ourselves looking towards the future.

Should we be needed – we will no doubt respond again.
We are United. Always.

Safety comes first and in order to create more awarness of this, United Rescue Aid has created these flyers to be distrubuted among the ones in need. Feel free to print or send a link to our flyers so that the message of safety gets out to as many as possible.
